Review: 'Stoneburner'
'Life Drawings'

-  Album: 'Life Drawings' -  Label: 'Neurot'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '14th April 2014'

Our Rating:
They’re capable of moments of lightness, of delicacy, of gentleness: ‘Drift’ is appropriately titles, a mellow picked acoustic piece that washes the senses clean… the intro to ‘Pale New Eyes’ too is sedate and atmospheric, and there are passages in the monumental finale (the 17-minute ‘The Phoenix’) that could be justly described as achingly beautiful… but for the most part, Stoneburner are about pulverizing guitar noise that grinds hard and heavy against the soul. ‘An Apology to a Friend in Need’ wrings out every drop of anguish from the depths, dropping like blood on scorched earth.

‘Life Drawings’ is, as is fitting of a release on Neurot, epic in every way, monumentally heavy, with a rich, earthy quality and an intangible depth that resonates on a subconscious, primal level, while at the same time appealing to the cerebral. It’s also staggeringly intense. Needless to say, it’s highly recommended.
