Review: 'CASTOR TROY'
'Across The Water'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '26th May 2014'

Our Rating:
Castor Troy are one of at least five bands past and present to be named after the Nicolas Cage freelance terrorist in the movie Face/Off . This one are a four-piece composed of school friends from Newcastle upon Tyne who started out in 2012.

Their chugging heavy metal sound swings between power chords ("fiery riffage") and more delicate post-rock style passages.

Benn Gibson's preachy vocal style covers subjects of isolation, ageing and suffering. "This town is full of cowards" he laments on Winter Lights and you perceive a general desire for escape from small town values.

The effect is by turns rousing and rowdy yet they lack a clear focus or consistent identity.

They strive for an epic "can anybody hear me yell?" finale with the 7-minuteThe Condemned but this merely comes across as dirgey and drawn out.

Overall it's a solid enough debut but the band seem undecided as to whether they want to make melodic and anthemic classic rock or embattled nu-metal.
