Review: 'SENOPIA'
'Modern Squalor'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '9th June 2014'

Our Rating:
Senopia are a four piece electro-rock band based in London although, as most of the publicity shots show, they are centred around the songwriting duo of Finnish female singer Pia Berg and bassist/programmer Andrew Brassleay.

This nine track debut release is so polished and confident that it's astonishing that they remain unsigned, a state of affairs that will surely be temporary.

The bigness of the sound is in part thanks to the fact that it was mixed by Donald Clark (Muse/Noah and the Whale) of Artillery Studios, and mastered by Mandy Parnell (Björk/The XX/Sigur Rós) of Black Saloon Studios

Pia sings in English with the exception of Andromeda where the lyrics are in Swedish.

Her feisty vocals, backed by brooding synths and thumping percussion, have commercially orientated pop elements but the tunes also contain the thrust and dynamism of hard rock.

All things being equal, this band should not have to put up with living in squalor for too much longer.
