Review: 'Aldridge, Hannah'
'Razor Wire'

-  Album: 'Razor Wire' -  Label: 'TroddenBlack Entertainment'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '16th June 2014'

Our Rating:
She may be rocking a vintage 50s look as adopted by Christina Aguilera, but on the back cover the smoking fag intimates Hannah Aldridge is a bit more rock than that. Sure enough, ‘Razor Wire’ - fittingly recorded in Nashville - is a country rock album, and as such it doesn’t exactly break any ground either musically or lyrically. It is, however, a solid set of songs delivered with confidence: Aldridge has a strong voice, but shows restraint. Instead of belting everything out, there’s subtlety and emotion in her vocals. That’s probably because she sings from the heart, and from experience. She may only be 26, but she’s done rehab, marriage, divorce, single parenting, and mergen notonly fighting but on top.

The title track slows things down and goes down the acoustic guitar and piano route to provide a break from the standard rock format. It wouldn’t be wrong to describe the emotionally charged ‘Parchman’ as a power ballad. ‘Howlin’ Bones’ rocks it up with some big guitars and overall, it would be fair to describe ‘Razor Wire’ as being sharp, and with a touch of class.
