Our Rating:
The cover shot is of an anonymous stretch of road taken at dusk while a series of short video trailers for the album show dead time parking a car, eating jelly in a diner, travelling on a Baltic Seaferry and walking at night towards the hazard lights of a car.

These are life's limbo moments when we're doing stuff but nothing much is really happening. This album is a soundtrack to those moments.

Five years ago Lukas Creswell-Rost relocated from his hometown of Leeds, UK to Berlin. This solo album reflects his changed perspective covering themes of ambition, fame, success and failure, all written from a "misanthropic mindset".

It has the feel of a personal home studio vanity project with the chief object being to satisfy himself.

He brings the precision and understatement of math-rock to the table. Perhaps this reflects a weariness towards the instrumental only philosophy in his role as one third of Tortoise-like "high-fidelity-smooth-rock" band The Pattern Theory.

Ten Dollar Cocktails and Patient Pilot both allude to the 2002 air-rage incident of the heavy metal guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen. The former uses a sample of a tape recording that circulated on the net with Malmsteen ranting how a fellow passenger on a flight to Tokyo had "unleashed the fury".

Summer Of George takes its title from a classic Seinfeld episode while Week Of Warmth is the tale of ill-fated 70s band Badfinger from their money-grabbing manager's perspective.

There are quirky stories here but Go Dream is more about mood than action. It is pop of the non commercial variety.

The problem is that, ultimately, the 11 sardonic songs are so understated that he hardly seems to be making any statement at all.
