Review: 'SUMMER EFFECT'
'Starting Over'

-  Label: 'Fluttery Records'
-  Genre: 'Post-Rock' -  Release Date: '26th September 2014'-  Catalogue No: 'FLTTRY071'

Our Rating:
Summer Effect are a duo from, wait for it, Indonesia.

Their home country is better known for Gamelan music but there are no metallophones or zithers here, just guitar and percussion. The two young men say they have "found tranquillity and peace in postrock music".

There's not a great deal of variety but Starting Over is quite a tight collection of instrumental pieces with just six songs, none of which is prolonged to much more than six minutes. The title track and Light And Rain are the two best tracks.

The familiar quiet-loud formula is a little too much in evidence but it is deployed intelligently to give at least a hint of the epicness they are striving for.
