I’ve been getting ‘Men With Ven’ beer mats in the mail with CDs from one of the PR companies who send me stuff since some time in October and I’ll admit, I didn’t really pay much attention because said coasters ended up under my pint glass while I was busy listening to music and hammering out reviews and my next novel. Anyway, I finally got around to seeing what the deal was. And here it is: The Worst Christmas ever. Well, they say that, but have clearly never spent Christmas at my mother-in-law’s.
It’s certainly one of the worst videos ever. Thankfully, it’s not a bad tune, and as the Men recount a dismal Christmas with ‘no turkey, no crackers, no beer’ the chances are it’s relatable to many. A welcome contrast to the slush that fills the charts at this time of year, to a guitar that chugs along solidly. It’s heart-warming to think that not everyone has a John Lewis picture perfect time and Men with Ven have surely delivered the best anti-Christmas anthem of 2014.
