Breaking out of a crowding wall of sound ‘Beat the Summer Heat’ finds its stride as a simmering psychedelic drone, its tremulous guitars drifting over a motorik beat that sets the album’s hypnotic tone. The janglesome ‘Spec City’ is light, airy indie pop fun and the title track’ easy-going 60s hues make for pleasant listening as the guitars fizz beneath strolling basslines.
Elsewhere, ‘Leave Your Worries’ calls to mind the happy-go-lucky slackerism of ‘Terror Twilight’ era Pavement in their poppier moments. It all adds up to a blurred swirl of retro-tinged indie with no shortage of decent tunes.
