With loping drums and jangling guitars, it’s perhaps not hard to hear from ‘All Works Out’ why The Riptide Movement have attained Gold-selling status for their debut album in their native Ireland. Their brand of ‘rabble-rousing, blue-collar rock ‘n’ roll’ will doubtless see them fare well here, too – but not because it’s especially exciting or outstandingly good. In fact, it’s pretty mediocre, evoking the likes of [insert mediocre indie band circa 2004 here], and The Las but without the flighty melodies.
No doubt a video with Irish actress Amy Huberman from BBC3’s ‘Threesome’ bouncing about on a bed in a mental institution will help extend the song’s appeal within certain sectors, but it’s all camouflage for the fact this is pretty bland fodder. Still, I hope it ‘all works out’ for them.
