My introduction to Yage was not literal or physical, but literary. Reading William Burroughs’ work, I found his missives penned to Allen Ginsberg while on the quest for Yage, a psychotropic drug purportedly a conduit to spiritual enlightenment fascinating.
Near Grey’s album has the capacity to induce a fugue-like state for any listener willing to fully immerse themselves in it’s deep sonic textures.
‘Yage’ has only three tracks, but a running time in excess of an hour. It’s slow-burning, mind-altering stuff. Vast expanses of droning guitars reminiscent of early Earth transition into sweeping post-metal landscapes: cinematic, widescreen, and crushingly heavy in their deliberate, driving riffs.
Feel the weight... let yourself drift...
