Review: 'CORBEIL-PERRON, MAXIME'
'Katharisis'

-  Label: 'Kohlenstoff'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: '11th December 2014'

Our Rating:
As you can see this actually came out last year but it has recently landed on the desk and it's quite interesting so I thought I might give it a bash.

It is in fact an anthology of electro-acoustic pieces from Montreal based composer Maxime Corbeil-Perron. Note the use of the words 'electroacoustic' and 'composer' in that last sentence. This is at the 'theoretical' end of popular music making. These are pieces and not songs.

Shit, this guy probably does installations and everything. This is not Hells Angel hipster, this is the beard stroking the man. Looking beyond all this, there is something here I quite like. I don't know the terminology but this is all ambience, scrapes, scraps of noise, fidgets, static and pretty, whistly feedback.

It is probably made by software and operated by a man picking his nose on a bus six thousand miles away. I like it, it sounds like the inside of my head.
