Review: 'Ai, Lilith'
'Hang Tough / Yeah Yeah'

-  Label: 'Lo Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Soul' -  Release Date: '4th May 2015'

Our Rating:
Her songs show urban life through a clear lens that does not hesitate to reveal the extent of her experiences. Born in north-east London, Lilith grew up ‘street wise’. In her early teens, and with only £70 in her pocket, she ran away to America and spent the next few years living on the streets of Queens, New York, a period which understandably had a powerful impact on her music.

‘Hang Tough’ is a slice of classic 60s-style soul, Lilith’s voice has that Motown feel and the song is a perfect match. There’s a most contemporary twist to the beat, though, which shows she’s no retro purist. The same smooth vibe flows through double A-side track ‘Yeah Yeah’, which features some subtle orchestral augmentation and builds a neat groove. It makes for an intriguing proposition and suggests Lilith Ai has real breakthrough potential.
