Review: 'Bosetti, Alessandro & Chris Abrahams'
'A Heart that Responds from Schooling'

-  Album: 'A Heart that Responds from Schooling' -  Label: 'Unsounds'
-  Genre: 'Post-Rock' -  Catalogue No: '50U'

Our Rating:
Italian composer Alessandro Bosetti reconvenes with Austrian pianist Chris Abrahams (renowned in certain circles for his work as a member of The Necks) for this, their second collaboration, following up from 2012’s ‘We Who Had Left’.

It’s a subtle and nuanced collection; the seven tracks place mood to the fore above overt and accessible structures. Sparse piano floats and reverberates in an imaginary space. Clicks and flutters formulate microbeats rising from static. Hesitant vocals quaver tentatively on ‘Esteem’, while elsewhere crazy keywork clashes against ominous beats and bass drones to create jarring tension, with the12-minute ‘Greenhouses’ proving particularly challenging, an endless build without resolution.

In all, it’s something of a piano-led oddity that’s about as niche in its appeal as you can get. It’s also completely unlike anything else you’ll be likely to hear this year.
