A gothic edge snakes through the driving ‘Dirty Words’, which reminds me a bit of Therapy? partly on account of the drumming, partly on account of the chugging guitars and low-slung bass sound.
It’s a strong start to what is a strong set of tracks for this Teeside five-piece, recently confirmed for Download 2015. Darker hues weave their way through the guitar lines, that are by turns chunky and sinewy, and Katie’s vocals work well. ‘Halo’ succeeds in being emotive without being Emo, and while there’s a strong, hard edge to the band’s sound and a keen sense of melody, they avoid the cliché trappings of current rock conventions with the loud / quiet, melodic / gritty contrasty bits and instead go straight for the jugular.
‘Weapon’ really powers home, rocking hard with a solid punch. Revolutionary may be a bit of a stretch, but hey, it’s early days...
