Review: 'Lucas, Marc'
'Please Tell the DJ'

-  Label: 'Laughing Outlaw Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock'

Our Rating:
Ahead of his solo album ‘Little Town Blues’, released in June, Mark Lucas (Dead Setters) offers up ‘Please Tell the DJ’. It’s a story song, described as ‘a sad tale in three quarter time of a bloke losing his girl and wishing someone would tell the DJ to stop playing their song.’

It’s practically flash fiction, clocking in at 2:22, and there’s a vintage country feel to the song, not just in the instrumentation and Lucas’ slightly grizzled, twangy delivery, but in the hazy production.

It’s nicely done, and the press shot of a behatted Lucas sitting at a bar wearing a battered leather coat and a weather-worn face says he’s lived it and that even after all these years writing and recording songs, he’s still got plenty to draw on, and you just can’t fake soul like this. And of course, if telling the DJ doesn’t work, you can always hang him...
