The release of ‘Touch & Go’ on 7” prefaces the arrival of Mr Vast’s forthcoming album of the same title. Manic white punk rapping over a wildly funky bass groove, it’s every bit as off the wall as you’d expect from the Wevie Stonder front man. Coming on like Devo duelling with Thomas Dolby while channelling the spirit of 80s Beastie Boys.
Vast adopts an arch gothic theatrical tone as he introduces ‘Problems with the Light’ before it goes all gloopy 80s electro-funk.
Yes, it’s all about the funk. The press release does forewarn that it’s an ‘unassailable dollop of stinking funk’, but it doesn’t even come close. The grooves on this chunk of wax are so fucking funky it hurts. Really: this much funk should be illegal.
