Our Rating:
This Spanish electronic duo certainly love their analogue synth sounds. Pitched as ‘one of the best examples in Spain of the renewal of the kosmosche sound’, the synths grind, gyrate and eddy around in mesmerising loops over primitive synthesised beats. Calling to mind the trippier, spacier sides of Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream, they have an edge that’s also reminiscent of Suicide. The track titles may refer to geographical co-ordinates, historical and astronomical references, but they do nothing to orientate the listener in any sense.

The thrumming undulations of ‘51o18’15”’ and the heavy technoid disco of ‘Rocas gravitando a la deriva’ has a gothic, darkwave feel to it, and there are dark undercurrents to many of the tracks here. The compositions are built around heavy repetitions of simple motifs, often sparse drum and bass rhythms with throb and pulse, overlaid with kaleidoscopic sine waves and fluttering bursts of shooting stars.

As is true of the style more broadly, the effect is hypnotic, but where ‘00110010’ stands out is in the fact it has more pace and attack than most. Not content to be mere background, it thrusts its way into the consciousness. Shift lingual – shift word patterns – Cut word lines – shift coordinate points… One hope left in the universe. Perhaps this is it.
