Alex Seel is an English acoustic-guitar based singer songwriter based in London
His new EP contains five earnest tunes about the bitter-sweet lure of success, self doubt, loneliness, the superficiality of the social network and the alienating effects of war on a old soldier.
These are the kind of story songs which have drawn flattering and, frankly, misleading comparisons to the likes of Bert Jansch, Nick Drake and Paul McCartney.
Seel is not really like any of these artists but without any strong identity of his own it's easy to see why reviewers might cling to past names.
What it also shows is that there's an absence of real contemporary edge to his material and this is why it's hard to get excited by this record.
