A collaboration between Moss Side singer Diane Charlemagne (Moby, Urban Cookie Collective, Goldie) and Simon Wolstencroft, long term member of The Fall and Ian Brown’s drummer and featuring The Smiths’ former bassist Andy Rourke, this should be cause to celebrate. Instead, following Diane’s recent death aged 51 after suffering with cancer, it’s cause to reflect on what could have been.
‘It’s In Your Eyes’ is packaged as a slice of sophisticated urban soul. And it certainly is: sleek, smooth, cool and sassy, and everything you’d want from a track in this vein. The subtle trings - courtesy of ex-Elbow and I Am Kloot's Jote Osahn are nicely done: everything’s balanced to perfection. A versatile vocalist with an impressive resumé, ‘It’s In Your Eyes’ captures Diane in fine form and makes for a memorable sign-off.
