Review: 'MEYVANT, JÚNÍUS'
'Neon Experience (Single)'

-  Label: 'Record Records'
-  Genre: 'Soul' -  Release Date: '12th April 2016'

Our Rating:
This elegantly orchestrated Arctic Soul is Gospel-like in its affirmations of hope and redemption. "Don't let the whole world bring you down, a new day will come around" sings Meyvant, a call which invites a 'Hallelujah - Praise Be' response.

The singer's real name is Unmar Gísli Sigurmundsson, changed presumably to be less of a mouthful for English-speaking audiences. The first name of his pseudonym is pronounced 'you-knee-us'.

His live performance for Seattle's KEXP public radio in 2014 shows him performing with an impressive nine piece backing band (two of whom are his brothers). Strings, guitars, drums, brass and piano make this a big sound in every way.

This is also a feature of a single which hints at the direction of his forthcoming debut album 'Floating Harmonies' scheduled for release on 8th July 2016.

It is far removed from the music one usually associates with Iceland but no less ethereal and spiritual. It serves as a further example of the diversity of talent and range of music produced by the land of fire and ice.
