Our Rating:
This is a record that aims to induce you to "dance through your consciousness" via a mix of New Agey hokum and faux-psychedelia that embraces elements of Goa trance and techno dance.

Doomsquad are three siblings Trevor, Jaclyn and Allie Blumas
from Toronto who give the impression of being high on something and their music is probably best appreciated while in a similarly altered state.

Having flirted with folk, dream pop and noise rock they have settled on a kind of cosmic calypso. This is exemplified in the opener, Who Owns Noon In Sandusky?, which is funky in the same way as Santana's Jingo with its hint of Afro tribalism and an infuriatingly catchy beat.

Aside from the occasional words, such as "you motherfuckers" on It's The Nail That Counts, Not The Rope, the lyrics are all but indecipherable. Based on what you can make out in Eat The Love this is probably a blessing.

The Canadian trio pull off a coup by getting the enigmatic Mary Margaret O'Hara to make a cameo appearance on The Very Large Army, presumably on the proviso that she is required only to emote vocally rather than sing any words.

The album, written and recorded in New Mexico, contains track titles like Pyramids On Mars and Solar Ass which suggest that the band spend a good deal of time staring into space.

Their brand of dreamy hedonism will appeal to listeners who spend more time with their heads in the clouds than with their feet on the ground.

Silly but fun.
