Review: 'Fighting Caravans'
'Blue Heart Motel'

-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '1st July 2016'

Our Rating:
Fighting Caravans describe themselves understatedly as ‘a 5-piece Alt-rock band from Leeds’, who’ve been likened to QOTSA, Nick Cave and The Doors. I get those comparisons, sure, but they fail to accommodate the skewed country and even gospel leanings of their debut EP. And then there are the wild live shows: not only is Daniel Clark as compelling and charismatic a front man as you’re likely to find – he’s a real live wire – but the band are so together and don’t sound quite like any other band going right now, with thumping bass and some magnificent slide guitar work in the mix.

This 7” release comes off the back of some blinding shows at Live at Leeds, Long Division and supporting NARCS at their album launch, and is a low-down, swaggering beast of a song. The vintage kit is given a proper working out as this bluesy slow-burner builds to a soaring finale. It’s as awesome as the video is odd, and can only enhance their reputation as one of THE bands to watch in 2016.
