Review: 'OLD MAN KELLY'
'Off My Lawn'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: 'July 2016'

Our Rating:
Kelly's 2013 debut album was 'Songs, Stories, Shanties and Shenanigans' and this title neatly sums up the content of his nimby inspired sophomore release.

Originating from the Appalachian Mountain town of Blackberg, Virginia, his brand of "American roots music with guts" is produced with the aid of a three man band The Streetsweepers plus other helpers.

Kelly's worldly drawl defines a troubadour spirit and is backed by traditional instrumentation including slide guitar, banjo, fiddle, honky-tonk piano, upright bass and clarinet.

His tongue in cheek style is epitomized by Jesus Is My Co-Pilot where the age old choice between sin and salvation is presented from the point of view of a hitch hiker noting from the back seat that< "Jesus shouts directions but the devil's on the gas".

While Crayons And A Car Seat shows that Kelly also has a reflective side, he's in his true element when transmitting the Dixieland vibe ofThe Murder Of Mir Imad and Cool Rag.

Off My Lawn is a solid, no-nonsense collection in which Kelly and his cronies come into their own playing the kind of swinging rockabilly designed more to get joints jumping than folks moping.
