Review: 'PURLING HISS'
'High Bias'

-  Label: 'Drag City'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '14th October 2016'

Our Rating:
Cracking garage/psych/indie album this one from the fevered mind of Mike Polizze now ably abetted by Ben Leaphart and Dan Provenzano.

The Hiss started out as a solo affair and then morphed into a band when Mike decided to take it on the road. Six albums in this juggernaut is flashing by in the outside lane. It's a real nice mix of styles and yet remarkably cohesive, flipping from garage punk (Fever) to La's style indie (Follow You Around) with no discernible dip in quality.

The vocals subtly shift to suit the track which is not an easy thing to accomplish. Here it could be Liam Gallagher, there it could be John Lydon (3000 AD) and all the while the band kick up a shitstorm and lock it down real tight. Freeway guitar pile-ups are the name of the game and if you want proof start at the back with 'Everybody in the USA' and rewind through 'Ostinato Musik' and 'Pulsations'.

If you're into bands like Dinosaur J, Turn To Crime, or even, say MC5, then this is the lozenge for you. A highlight of the year for me.
