It begins with simmering feedback and a big drum build-up, then the riff comes in and the vocals… and bloody hell. It’s 80s Sabbath crossed with Foreigner. It’s Soundgarden at their hoariest, most cliché.
The band’s sound is firmly rooted in the blues-based hard rock tradition that spans back through from the late 60s, as they demonstrate as much imagination and originality as you’d reasonably expect from a band who’ve taken the moniker of the pre-Free band which featured Paul Kossoff and Simon Kirke. They have song titles like ‘Lust’, ‘The Devil You Know’, and ‘The River’.
The musicianship’s perfectly solid, but it’s all pretty predictable.
