Review: 'BODY/HEAD'
'No Waves'

-  Label: 'Matador'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '11th November 2016'

Our Rating:
This is no holds barred twin guitar aural assault carried out by Kim Gordon and Bill Nace, both artists who are no strangers to the weird and wonderful world of free rock/noise that emerged from the murk of No Wave.

Gordon also supplies vocals but nothing much resembles her singing on classic Sonic Youth tunes, not least because she summons forth moans and groans in lieu of words.

The three improvised tracks were recorded live at the Bijou Theatre on 28th March 2014 as part of The Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee.

They are, if I'm not mistaken, modeled in part on the fearlessly intense work of Japan's Keiji Haino either in solo mode or as part of the ear-crushing Fushitsusha.

The 23 minute plus Abstract / Actress blurs together two tracks from 2013's Coming Apart studio album and the noise ambience makes most sense over this extended time frame.

Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance), writing in the press release, calls the Body/Head concert recording "the sound of sound evolving". and adds that "The sound of their evolution causes audiomorphic sensations".

My mom would call these 'sensations' a 'chow-row' and the truth lies somewhere in between.

"FLAT AS A VAL'S ASS N JUYST AS FCKD UP NO WAYVE MADE" is the cryptic CAP-LOCK missive that adorns the album sleeve and anyone who can decode this should be able explain the meaning of this album perfectly.

Lesser mortals may be intrigued but will be left scratching their heads.
