Review: 'King Colobus'
'King Colobus (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '3rd February 2017'

Our Rating:
Another day, another heavy blues rock band… so what? So King Colobus really go for the heavy. The bass that drives the EP’s first track, ‘Get Up’ is a beast. Dense, fuzzed out and thunderous, it’s paired with some seriously heavy duty drumming. Stuart MacPherson’s got that Josh Homme drawl down and any comparison to Queens of the Stone Age is a favourable one.

‘King Colobus’ could be seen as something of a signature tune. It’s more overtly bluesy, but played slow and heavy, like Melvins covering 70s ZZ Top. It’s got big swagger and colossal weight, and has whappy stoner guitar break in the middle, which is ace. The gothy ‘Tits & Teeth offers a nice contrast, MacPherson adopting a crooning tone somewhere between Paul Banks and Dave Vanian. They still manage to pack some big-bollocked riffing alongside the theatrical piano outro. Guitars are set to stun on the choppy ‘Wait’, which wraps the EP up in electric style.

If you can find them amongst all of the pages about primates, you’ll find a belting band with hot prospects in 2017.
