Review: 'Sertraline'
'Guilty (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '3rd March 2016'

Our Rating:
‘Melodic’ doesn’t have to mean ‘tame’ or ‘weak’. Unfortunately, so many so-called melodic metal bands are pretty lame, seemingly preferring to place their emphasis on the melody over the metal. There’s some decent guitar chug driving ‘Guilty’, and while ‘Snakes’ throbs nicely and exploits the contrast between Lizzie’s clean, tuneful vocals and the demonic roar of the backing vocals, the guitars are backed off a bit too far, and the vocals dominate the mix.

Halfway through the EP, ‘Change of Heart’ suggests they’ve had a change of heart about actually being a metal band: this is a regular rock song with a big chorus that borders on pop. Throw in some jazz-tinged mathy noodles in the guitar-line and actually, what you have is a pretty sorry, soggy mess of music. ‘Nyeevise’ shows more resolve and the guitars have a bit of grunt behind them, but again, the metal edge is significantly dulled by the absence of anger. So, while ‘melodic’ doesn’t have to mean ‘tame’, in this instance, is sadly does.
