Our Rating:
In 2012, Dieter Moebius was invited to perform music to Fritz Lang's legendary silent film "Metropolis". He produced pre-arranged tracks and samples to be treated with effects and combined during live improve according to the dramaturgical setting of the film. It was his plan to create an album-length version of this music for release. He passed away on July 20th, 2015 and was unable to complete the project. Between Moebius' widow Irene and two longtime musical partners, Tim Story and Jon Leideker, the Berlin musician Jonas Forster finished and completed the production.

For fans of Moebius, the film "Metropolis" and soundtracks and avant garde music in general, this is essential listening. Across four ten minute pieces the world of the film is conjured. This is beautiful, intense and magical music. It would be wonderful to watch the film with this as the soundtrack to hear just how effective it would be.

Having seen the film before I have images in my head running along with the music as I listen and it seems the perfect match. It's maybe like Cluster toned down a bit. Clanks, whirrs, scratchy noises and tinkles combine to make organic but mechanized music. The whole thing has almost religious overtones with what sound like hand-held drums and bells often present, combined with more spaced out sounds to compliment both the science and the fiction. Only Moebius could have created this, fur "Metropolis".
