This is Tara Clerkin's debut album and it combines elements of psychedelia (Sleepy Town), country (John) and folk (Holy Purpose).
There is something going on here but you have to dig quite deep to work it out. This may be partly as a result of the album being recorded in one week. Sometimes, it feels a little bit like "let's just try this and see what happens". Sometimes what happens is you end up with two minutes of someone knocking about on the toms to no great end and this detracts from the overall effect of the album.
Other than the three tracks initially referred to, 'Full Of Fright' (spray can percussion), 'Hello Theme' (woozy and off-kilter) and 'Zadar' (found-sound-clash) are worth a mention and seem a bit more fully realised. In essence, this is a difficult album to review which is no bad thing and it feels like something of a curiosity. Quirky, interesting and unashamedly innocent. Plus, how in God's name does a clay head work!? Welcome to the mysterious world of Tara Clerkin.
