This impressively bearded roots artist from Alberta, Canada got his hard living out of his system early in life before finding solace and self expression in music.
Undeterred by a stint in jail, a failed marriage and losing a steady job he progressed from troublemaker to troubadour funding his passion through manual labour jobs.
This batch of songs was written in Austin, produced by Steve Dawson and recorded in Nashville to make a second album which he calls “an honest look at struggle.”
With vintage steel guitar, autobiographical story-songs and raw vocals it has a very 1970s feel. They are earthy and authentic pieces but also rather dull.
You can't fault the man's earnestness and honesty but you still need memorable tunes and something extra to make them seem fresh.
