Review: 'Matinée'
'Goldfish'

-  Label: 'Neon Tetra Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '19th June 2017'

Our Rating:
I’m not entirely sure of the correspondence between the song and the single’s unusual choice of cover image. There’s so much to be said about the act of urination and on the topic of the oddness of public urinals that there’s not so much a review as a whole book’s worth of material. But above all, I’m reminded of the episode of ‘Nathan Barley’ which featured the promo video by 15Peter20 for his project which featured pictures of celebrities urinating, contending that the moment of release is the point at which a person is vulnerable.

There’s not a lot overtly vulnerable about Matinee on this outing, although lyrically, it is pretty pisspoor. ‘When she calls she makes a loud noise’ is one of the lines of the cumbersome chorus which punctuates this flimsy pop tune built around a bouncy bass and a clean, nagging guitar. And as it’s already on the retail playlists or McDonald’s, Tag Hauer, BMW, Virgin, New Balance and a heap of other places, you’d probably better get used to it, because before the end of the summer, it’s going to be one of those unshakeable earworms.
