Review: 'Waiting for Titor'
'Halo pt. 1 (EP)'

-  Genre: 'Rock'

Our Rating:
After the obligatory short, atmospheric instrumental intro track more common to post-hardcore releases, Waiting For Titor get down to the business of rendering some well-structured alternative rock tunes. ‘Halo’ weaves chiming neo-prog guitars over a jittery, sequenced drum pattern, and condenses the effects of a seven-minute epic into a fraction under three and a half. ‘Bitter End’ brings a riffier edge to the sound, and builds through a strong chorus to a bold climax, and ‘Diving into the Black’ takes a more electrocentric approach, betraying the band’s appreciation of Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails but without being especially hard or heavy.

Having launched their career with a rocked-up cover of Massive Attack’s ‘Teardrop’, Waiting for Titor aren’t afraid of approaching challenging covers and ‘making them their own’ as they like to say on Pop Idol and The Voice. ‘Diving Into the Black’ tackles Neil Young’s ‘Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)’ and makes a decent fist of it.

On ‘Halo pt. 1’, WFT demonstrate stylistic range, but present style sufficiently distinctive to remain cohesive, thanks in no small part to the lusciously cinematic production and the fact melody is kept very much in focus throughout.
