Review: 'CHICANO BATMAN'
'Freedom Is Free'

-  Label: 'ATO Records'
-  Genre: 'Seventies' -  Release Date: '3rd March 2017'

Our Rating:
The Chicano Batman sound is a sonic melting pot of ’70s soul, Brazilian Tropicalia and psychedelic pop served up by four young men from LA in vintage formalwear. Check out those matching three piece purple suits and bow ties in the video to Friendship (Is A Small Boat In A Storm). This sartorial elegance matches the seductive swagger of the rhythms.

The quartet's third album, and ATO Records debut, places a strong focus on danceable funk complete with killer bass lines and cool keyboard and horn arrangements.

They cite romantic balladeers Los Angeles Negros and Los Pasteles Verdes as role models but confine their own Spanish crooning to just two songs : La Jura and Flecha Al Sol.

In any language this is fine freedom loving sunshine pop designed to soothe the soul.
