Did I repeatedly skip this album because of the band’s awful name and the predictable title? Maybe. Or I could just stick with the standard ‘epic backlog’ excuse – which is, I must stress, entirely true.
But the murky, booming bass throb that drives the explosive no-wave / punk crossover of the title track which opens the album tells me that it was worth dredging out of the pile for a spin. What would, done differently, be a rather standard rock album is transformed by the sheer energy of the Austrian trio. They’ve got power in truckloads, and while Yves Krismer’s vocal is strong, it’s the way it’s in the mix with dense guitars and powerhouse drumming that makes it all gel.
‘Black Roses’ plunders a vintage hard rock seam, while there’s a solid groove to ‘Now or Never’. The production is meaty, and while you won’t find anything groundbreaking on ‘No Rhyme No Reason’, if you’re on the market for a gutsy old-school rock album with some decent tunes, you won’t feel too let down.
