Review: 'BOULOUDIS, NATALIE'
'Dead Sea Scripts (EP)'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '10th May 2017'

Our Rating:
Natalie Bouloudis is from East Sussex and previously sang as Aurora Harbringer.

Her songs on this debut EP fall somewhere between dark sea shanties and theatrical Kurt Weill like compositions.

Show me the way to the next whisky bar is what she doesn't sing but it wouldn't be a surprise if she did. She sounds like a brooding femme fatale with some scores to settle. "Memories can be cynical" she rages on Float.

Romantic Bullshit Blues is the third of six songs and the most savage; a menacing piano ballad telling of a woman wronged who knows exactly where the blame lies.

"I like rich melodies, moody skies, dark romanticism, charged atmospheres that tell hard boiled tales"> explains Bouloudis and on Firebird, says she wanted to evoke "the sound of a 60s girl group jamming with a 90s grunge band".

With just violin, piano and bass to back her, this is a tough call and though it falls short, you have to admire her ambition.
