Review: 'HARROW FAIR'
'Call To Arms'

-  Label: 'Roaring Girl Records'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '19th May 2017'-  Catalogue No: 'RG014'

Our Rating:
Harrow Fair are a Canadian duo which brings together the voices and musical talents of Great Lake Swimmer's fiddler Miranda Mulholland and guitarist Andrew Penner.

The folky blues songs on their debut LP are described as "stomping" and "gritty" but the earthy qualities are never entirely convincing. They come across like The Handsome Family minus the weirdness.

Mulholland's lively fiddling ensures the tunes like Told A Lie To My Heart and Bite The Way have nice rootsy swing but the lack of sinful swagger means that songs that should be raw and dirty feel end up sounding too bouncy and clean.
