Review: 'SEGALL, TY'
'Freedom's Goblin'

-  Label: 'Drag City'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '26th January 2018'

Our Rating:
If Ty Segall's previous eponymous album from last year was his Revolver then this is his White Album. Sprawling across four sides and 75 minutes of vinyl, it's a job to take it all in.

Ty makes someone like Beck look limited in terms of outlook. And working with Steve Albini seems to have sent the guy into overdrive, if that were even possible.

Ty and his band wearing overalls could perhaps be seen as a reference to the producer and his methods and attitude. I am not going to walk you through the sprawl. I think that would spoil the fun of it. Get the vinyl and pick a side!

You might get anything from glammed up Hot Chocolate covers to funk; skronk to Beatles pop; Detroit punk to indie rock; and well, you get the picture! What could easily come across as a mess with too much filler is, in actual fact, a delight to listen to. The reason being that each and every song has been carefully constructed, rehearsed thoroughly, performed brilliantly and produced masterfully. This has been repeated 19 times!! Quite simply, he has done himself to an egg...man!
