Review: 'BOATHOUSE KEEPERS'
'Emperor Of Oranges'

-  Label: 'Backwater Records'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '27th October 2017'-  Catalogue No: 'OLKCD029'

Our Rating:
The Boathouse Keepers are moored up somewhere in a never never land of milk and honey singing of sugar and spice and all things nice.

Back in the real world, Holly Johnston (voice) and Jonathan Coy (acoustic guitar) are from Suffolk, England.

The duo's debut album, recorded live onto tape, contains ten safe, simple and simplistic "stories from history, literature and daily life".

You don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to guess that Elementary is "based on Arthur Conan Doyle's famous characters".

Greater deductive powers are needed to link All For Mexico with Jose Morelas, a Catholic priest who led the Mexican revolution for independence until 1815.

There is nothing remotely revolutionary about this record, however. Instead you'll find ten homely ballads all sung in a fluttery high pitch with varying degrees of twee-ness.
