Our Rating:
Inspired by the American folk hero and King of the Wild Frontier, Davy Crockett, this Texas native is a globe-trotting country singer who performs here with his touring band, “The Blue Drifters.”

In 2017, Crockett released a collection of his favourite honky tonk songs, but this, his fourth full-length album, consists entirely of original songs with more of the bluesy-jazz vibe. This is mainly down to the prominence of brass and piano backing. It was produced by Matt Ross-Spang and recorded at Sam Phillip’s Recording in Memphis, TN.

All the songs are on or under three minutes long so the twelve tracks amount to a relatively brief playing time of just half an hour. With their tales of broken hearts and lost loves the tunes would be tailor-made for use in juke-boxes of small-town bars where they might be heard by patrons intent on drowning their sorrows.

The raunchy Lil’ Girl’s Name and the rockabilly shake of Goin’ Back To Texas spice things up a little and I Wanna Cry, the opening track and the album’s first single, is a surprisingly upbeat Cajun song considering that it was written in honour of his late sister.

Aside from this, the atmosphere is seriously mellow and downbeat. As we see in the video to Ain’t Gotta Worry Child Crockett revels in the role of a soulful urban cowboy passing on some kingly wisdom to his subjects.
