Review: 'LUBELSKI, SAMARA'
'Flickers At The Station'

-  Label: 'Drawing Room Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '29th June 2018'

Our Rating:
Samara Lubelski is a busy woman. She's a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and engineer. Hers is a name than comes up time and again if you listen a lot to freak folk, drone, noise or avant rock.

Aside from her solo albums, of which this is her ninth, she's either been a member or guest of artists including Hall of Fame, The Sonora Pine, Jackie O Motherfucker, The Tower Recordings, Matt Valentine and Thurston Moore In short, if you haven't heard of her, you're listening to the wrong music.

Lubelski is based in New York but this album was recorded in 2017 in Germany with her long time collaborators, Metabolismus, and others

Her soft vocals are there but almost not there, drifting languorously as if carried along by the delicate spiralling baroque pop arrangements. Tunnel Visions, The Spiral Spins and Soft Focus are titles that aptly describe and fit with the mood and method.

As it's hard to pick out the lyrics it's pointless trying to stress over the meanings behind the dreamy music. In consequence, this is a record best enjoyed by simply going with its gentle psychedelic flow.

Chill out music that is too cool for chill out rooms.
