Review: 'JENKINS, JOHN AND THE JAMES STREET BAND'
'Looking For That American Dream (single)'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '29th March 2019'

Our Rating:
The shiny promise of the American dream has lost its glamour of late. What was once the province of idealists now seems to a fantasy for desperate US citizens eager to find proof of the greatness of their nation.

So far as I can make out, John Jenkins and his band are not given to flights of fancy. They seem a down-to-earth bunch who play fairly conventional pop-rock without pretending to be doing anything particularly radical.

This tune is therefore solid and workmanlike which is hard to get excited about. When Jenkins asks “Is it real?” he doesn’t appear to be seeking the answer to any big ideological or cultural questions. Rather, his main preoccupation centres on the age-old quest for locating and winning a woman.

In other words the eye-catching title is something of a red herring so gives no clues as to the whereabouts of the elusive dream.
