Earth Tongue are a two-piece from Wellington, New Zealand and this album released via SBR in Bristol sees them making waves on these shores. Ezra plays drums and shouts and Gussie plays guitar and sings. They swing between Sleep heavy riffs and jagged punk like melodies, dripping every ounce out of what they play to form an intriguing statement.
What they might lack in virtuosity they more than make up for with essentially good song-writing. "Microscopic Gods" burrows its way into your head and once there proves difficult to dislodge. The songs move between jarring and melodic with an emphasis on the later. Gussie's voice is ethereal but strong enough to hold the performances together and Ezra's drumming is solid but contains varied time signatures that take the songs to some interesting places.

This is very much a team effort and their playing is together and intuitive with vocals often bouncing around with the rhythms as on "The Dome". Subject matter ranges from the macro ("Astonishing Comet") to the micro ("Sentient Sediment") and a good few pagan stops in between. If you can't play live in NZ you should probably play behind a cage (so I am led to believe) and their performance at the Astral Festival saw them them take home an army of new fans. Witch friendly 70s psych and prog within an acre of fuzz.
