Our Rating:
This is the first time that The Siddeleys classic Sunshine Thuggery has been officially available as a 72 single. The bands singer Johnny Johnson was described as a Female Morrisey by John Peel as if such a thing could be possible, either way it's great to hear The Siddeleys again after all the years since John Peel would regularly play these songs in his show when they originally came out in 1988. The EP was produced by John Parish.

The Ep opens with the title track Sunshine Thuggery an urgent jangle indie-pop song with a message and some great trumpet and Johnny Johnsons very sardonic vocals.

Are You Still Evil is super speedy jangle pop that wants to know if Your Still Evil When Your Sleeping that spits the accusations at the object of her hatred that sounds like it's her father and her desire to kick his teeth in, this is the sort of song that you Start off thinking is all nice and pleasant and the you realize just what they are singing about and that ostrich style guitar bit comes in.

The B-side opens with Falling Off My Feet Again is a song against domestic violence and the sort of phrase you might use to cover up being hit again in a disarming and slightly disturbing way.

Bribes And Bruises is the jangle fight apology song for the sort of person who gets loaded and gets into scraps and scrapes and then tries to make out like nothing untoward has happened as you hear all the lyrical turns and wonder why you have vinegar in your hair this like most of the EP is darkly appealing and in places slightly disturbing as the lyrics often go to places your not expecting them too.
