Destiny Waiving is the third part of the trilogy Ulrich Schnauss and Mark Peters have collaborated on together since they recorded the Underrated Silence together in 2011 and followed it up with Tomorrow Is Another Day in 2013. Most of this album was recorded in 2017 and then mixed in 2020.
Ulrich Schnauss is a member of the most recent line-up of Tangerine Dream and Mark Peters is better known as part of Engineers.
The album opens with The Supposed Middle Class a gently building ambient piece with some careful and very upper middle class almost public-school boy guitar before the more down at heel bass comes in to take this off somewhere less class conscious and a bit 1980's dancefloor.
Hindsight Is 20/20 or in this case rather floaty ambient music with a repeating guitar figure and the gentlest of builds as you try to focus on what's in the rear-view mirror.
Circular Time plays with circular musical forms to create a world of interlocking musical circles to help you relax and lose all track of time and space while coming down.
Chiaroscuro has a very 17th century feel to the guitar part almost sounding like they were writing this piece to be played on a Virginal apart from the tabla like percussive pattern this feels like they have found a lost piece of music and updated it. This has far more light than shade in the music but the underlying Bass parts seem to be the shade on this tune as some almost Chinese opera style elements are added.
Words Can Be Dismissed is exactly what they have done on this album as it's totally instrumental and this is a gently textural piece of floaty prog with electronic edges.
Speak In Capitals could either be about shouting and raging on social media IN BLOCK CAPITALS TO GET YOUR RAGE ACROSS, or it could be about going on a speaking tour from Berlin to London and beyond, either way it sounds like Yello at their most restrained and almost sounds like they have a choral backing making interesting textural sounds as the odd guitar bits come in and out of the mix.
Clair-Obscur sounds as if the sounds are being filtered through a light box as they mutate and change as the tune progresses along it's as ever chilled and relaxed way.
The album closes with So Far, The Moment seems to be about if you can make a voice synthesizer sound like a malfunctioning vacuum cleaner, or if that ringing sound can really annoy you, set against the really nice gentle backing, this is a tune all about juxtapositions seemingly.
