Review: 'The Pickup Game'

Director: 'O'Connor, Matthew and Barnaby'
-  Starring: 'Matthew and Barnaby O'Connor'

-  Genre: 'Documentary'

Our Rating:
Since its obscure beginnings in the 1980s, the 'pickup' industry has exploded into a predatory multi-million dollar industry rife with self-proclaimed ˜pickup artists that teach men techniques to find success with women. The Pickup Game shines a light onto this shrouded world, exposing its controversy and dangers in what Vents Magazine described as "The documentary every woman needs to see."

Spanning across Barcelona, London, and New York City, the film offers a view behind the industry's veil with unprecedented access to various contributors that have operated within the space. Among them are former New York playboy Paul Janka, heralded as an idol to many students who had gone so far as to keep a spreadsheet of every woman he slept with, who left his multi-million dollar pickup business to begin a new life with his wife.

Also featuring is one of the industry's only female coaches Minnie Lane, who early in her career realised the danger of pickup companies and has since left to start her own, calling for a more genuine and honest way of teaching dating advice.

Alongside fellow stars, Janka and Lane are primed to give raw and brutally honest perspectives on an industry that has survived for decades shrouded in mystery.
