Our Rating:
This latest EP by The Perfect Disaster legend Phil Parfitt is part of a collaboration with the Japanese artist Motoko Tachikawa that's available either with an 8 page Art booklet or a limited edition Artist Book with Prints photographs and drawings.

The EP opens with Phil Parfitt's reading of Beltane, it's slow precise and mournful with some very gentle acoustic guitar adornment gently caressing and accentuating the words of Phil's poem about John Clare and the passing of the four seasons, as well as how hard life was for John Clare first as a poet and farmer and then for the last 25 years of his life locked away in an asylum.

Imbolc keeps the slow mournful feeling and adds some rather beautiful and beatific trumpet to the acoustic guitar being slowly strummed and picked as Phil's words about John Clare become clearer with every listen, the regret and sorrow that feels perfect for my usual blue feelings in December, that for me is always a month of death, this tries to comfort you, while acknowledging that such comfort is often impossible to either give or receive as the pain is always there alongside the loss.

Lughnasadh adds some strings into the mix like a gentle pillow to rest your weary head on as the trumpet becomes ever more intoxicating as the memories of those you've lost keep flashing before you as the spirited words really want to help you as the leaves gently fall from the trees once more.

Samhain strips things back to just a chiming acoustic guitar and a few notes on a double bass as the words of the poem seep deep into your consciousness as you reflect on all the death we are surrounded by and try to find a way to see the light and pull on through as we try to make sense of the chaotic world around us this will hopefully give us a sense of peace for the time being.
