Review: 'BENOIT, PAUL'
'Beautiful Lies'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '12th October 2021'

Our Rating:
This album is collection of ten largely forgettable soft rockers, Americana ballads, and easy listening duets featuring Amilia K. Spicer, Michelle McAfee, and Sean Divine.

The album was recorded at the Seattle based Robert Lang Studio and a cabin on the Olympic Peninsula; and produced by Benoit and Jesse Field.

Benoit plays with what are referred to as a ”stellar band” of musicians. The playing is hard to fault but there’s not much soul behind the material.Instead, the tracks are stuck in a laid back groove with not enough variety or energy to grab the attention.

Let’s Pretend We’re In Love is described as a love song for dystopic times built around a tune with more than a passing resemblance to ‘The House of the Rising Sun’. This is indicative of a set of songs which are solid and pleasant enough but altogether too derivative and lacking in dynamism or an individual stamp.
