Review: 'Social Union'
'Fall Into Me'

Our Rating:
Social Union are a duo from Otautahi, Aotearoa (Christchurch) in New Zealand, who are singed to Blackjack Illuminist records in Germany. Social Union are comprised of Vanilla Martin and Luke Penrose, who have made a Social union to make music together despite there very different musical backgrounds, Vanilla's is in Jazz and The Western Australia school for Performing arts and Luke in punk bands including Master Blaster and Blamethrower. Together they make Darkwave synth pop.

This ep or Cassingle opens with Fall Into Me that has deep synths and gauzy vocals, with what sound like some Dave Barbarossa drum samples, on a good dark slow goth song with a repeating pulsing synth sound.

Choke is goth infused synth pop for the darkest of dance floors as this sad tale of finding out that someone you thought was a friend is into erotic asphyxiation and other danger play and didn't bother finding out if you consented or not.

Abscond keeps things nice and dark for this tune of getting away and escaping from who knows what hell, as they seek the help they need to start again as the effects laden guitar weaves it's way through the mire, Vanilla tries to find her feet again and regain her desire.

Our Hands Don't Fit is as good a sign that a relationship won't work as any, on this dark story of the despair of incompatibility with someone you wanted to be compatible with, the fractious sounding guitar intercuts between the drum patterns as they look for someone whose hands do fit in there's.
