Review: 'Jed Potts & The Hillman Hunters'
'Swashbucklin''

-  Genre: 'Rock'

Our Rating:
Fans of blues-infused rock! You’re going to want to know about this latest album from Jed Potts & The Hillman Hunters! ‘Swashbucklin’’, a nine track album featuring unbelievable rocking blues music, came out on November 5th, and with a cool, laid back vibe that we can definitely get on board, you cannot afford to miss this!

Starting us off is the title track, ‘Swashbucklin’’, which comes in red hot with a vocal and musical performance that sets the standard for the rest of the album so high. The perfect introduction, starting off slow with vocals taking centre stage while the riffs and drums are expertly played to set the tone nicely. Moving into the second track, ‘It Won’t Be Long’, the band give us the same type of performance, until the end where a change in tempo gives the drums the lead up in an explosion of intensity that sees the vocals more strained, at the guitar free to have a burst of mini-solos that end in style. Two strong opening tracks that are undeniably filled with original ideas and talent, it showcases that this album has an intensity that matches the skill on display.

Moving through the album, songs such as ‘The Fastest Outlaw’ and ‘To the Mountains’ kept our interest. The same great guitar, drums and vocals are present in both, giving easy-going, storytelling lyrics that are so impressive. Halfway in, it becomes easily apparent that Jed Potts & The Hillman Hunters are supremely talented, using numerous skills to make music that flows so nicely. Other songs such as ‘Splash Down!’, a complete change in style with a singer-less song that gives the immense drums and guitars a real chance to shine uninterrupted, help keep the rest of the album feeling brand new as the change in style allows for an interlude.

The final song on the album, ‘Take What You Want’, goes back to the familiar sound that we heard at the start. Finishing as they started, ‘Take What You Want’ is a great song that uses vocal and musical ability to shine with every second, ending ‘Swashbucklin’’ on a high that never dipped throughout the album.

‘Swashbucklin’’ is an album that will blow you away. The same rocking blues throughout, it has a clear energy and skill to it that keeps you hooked. The album is a clear example of the skill that Jed Potts & The Hillman Hunters possess, and throughout the album they flex that skill without dropping their high standards. With a release date of November 5th, ‘Swashbucklin’’ is out now, ready to be heard!
